Swiss summer

wandering along....

sunny 30 °C

hmmm when i left you, think I had just got back from a big hike in the hills above Zürich, will try and remember what I have done after that, keeping quite busy!

On Wednesday, I took the train up to Schaffhausen and from there I walked to the Rhine Falls, Europe's largest waterfalls. They are not high, 23m, but 150m wide. on my way, just relaxed by the river, the waterways are really clean, and there are people swimming in every lake, river, and fountain possible! hung around near the falls for a while, was able to get quite close so that was fun, then after that I took the train to Winterthur. It is a town of about 100,000 people, so i just wandered around for a while (have been doing a lot of wandering!) before heading back to Zürich for the evening.

On Thursday I didn't venture so far, but went slowly. Took a boat cruise on the Zürich lake down to a small place called Rapperswil. boat went for about 2 hours, quite nice and relaxing, before (surprise, surprise) wandering around the town. as nice as the weather was for another boat ride, didn't feel like another 2 hours on the lake so caught the train back to town.

On Friday, went out to a town called St. Gallen. as i soon discovered with Switzerland, there are not many blockbuster attractions, which is nice, but most cities have an 'old town', so it's always nice just to wander (the word of the day!) and enjoy the surroundings and the weather. from St. Gallen I took the train to Luzern, which is about 2 hours away, but the route is called the Voralpen express, which means the Pre-Alps. so we went past big mountains, but not at all the biggest to be seen here. Lucerne is quite a nice town, did nothing but wander through it, joined but many other tourists at this stage, more than i was used to seeing at the other towns i had been visiting.

well i will post this and get the next blog up about my weekend ASAP!
