Wine and Cheese..... that's about it!

sunny 34 °C

Hi/Bonjour, here is my update from Paris!

Had an excellent week here! I have never eaten such great food consistently in the space of one week!! Same goes for wine!

I was lucky enough to stay with my friend Cedric, so getting the advice direct from a Frenchman was priceless. Tasted some great champagne, white wine and red wine, combined with some delicious cheeses that I had never tasted before/never heard of before! These included Tomme de brebis corse, fromage de chèvre, Cantal, Camembert affiné au Calvados, Munster, and Coulomier. Don't know if that means anything to any of you, but for these cheese experts out there, you'll know what I am talking about I hope!
Also introduced to the French charcuterie, tasting such things like Andouillettes de Guéméné, Rillettes d'oie, Jambon de Bayonne and Pâté de Canard aux Pistaches. Again, things I wouldn't normally have had the chance to try, but having done so, really enjoyed! Especially when combined with fresh bread and baguettes from the local boulangerie (bakery). To top it all off, tasted some great cakes as well! Not quite French, but I also had my first taste of mussels, quite enjoyed. I also had the nicest sushi I have ever had, not expected from Paris but a bonus nonetheless!

Well you might not imagine it, but I had a bit of time to look around Paris as well, when I wasn't eating at least. Kept clear of the most touristy places, since you couldn't hardly move (have never seen so many tourists in one city at the same time!)
Just checked out some of the parks around the city, as well as the huge Printemps and Lafayette stores. Also took a walk around Montmarte, the area around Sacre Coeur, where you have nice views over Paris. It was quite hot during the week so I didn't go out and about as much as I would have liked to.

Overall, had an absolutely brilliant week in the French capital! Have really enjoyed the past three weeks of travelling, feel very relaxed and incredibly happy about everything!!! Keep forgetting that I have to start uni soon, but in any case I am looking forward to that a lot too!

Next stop - Finland! Just a brief visit but an important one, so stay tuned and will update you on that soon.
